Position Overview
Wellura Residential Cleaners & Homemakers help seniors and adults with special needs maintain safe, comfortable, and dignified living environments in their own homes. You'll provide more than just cleaning—you'll create spaces that support independence and well-being, while building trusted relationships with clients and their families.
This role is typically structured as an independent contractor relationship, though direct employment may be available for exceptional and suitably experienced candidates.
Key Responsibilities
Home Environment Management:

Perform thorough housekeeping including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and sanitizing

Clean kitchens and bathrooms to high standards

Manage laundry including bed linens (washing, drying, folding, organizing)

Change bed linens and maintain bedroom cleanliness
-
Organize closets, cupboards, and living spaces
-
Take out garbage and recycling
-
Water plants and provide light garden maintenance (i.e. decorative planters)
-
Perform seasonal tasks (e.g. deep cleaning projects)
-
Identify and report maintenance issues or safety hazards
Meal Preparation & Kitchen Support:

Prepare nutritious meals according to dietary preferences and restrictions

Plan simple weekly menus in consultation with clients/families
-
Stock and organize pantry, refrigerator, and kitchen supplies
-
Clean kitchen thoroughly after meal preparation
-
Package bulk meals and label meals/leftovers appropriately
Client Support:

Provide light assistance with daily living activities as needed
-
Offer friendly, respectful companionship during homemaker visits while balancing primary tasks

Monitor home environment for safety concerns
-
Report any changes in client wellbeing or home conditions to Care Coordinator

Respect client preferences, routines, and privacy
Communication & Coordination:

Document each visit via the Notes tool in our system (tasks completed, observations, any concerns)

Communicate proactively with your Care Coordinator about scheduling, supplies needed, or issues

Follow established care plans and household protocols
-
Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
-
Participate in periodic check-ins and training as needed

Bring your own professional-grade cleaning supplies and equipment (or use client-provided supplies as directed)

Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
-
Minimum 2 years of professional cleaning or housekeeping experience (residential, hospitality, or healthcare settings)
-
Valid Ontario driver's license (G2 minimum, G preferred) and reliable vehicle with insurance

Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (we will cover the cost)

Comfortable using smartphone apps for scheduling and communication
-
Strong English communication skills (verbal and written)

Physical ability to perform cleaning and homemaking tasks including lifting (up to 30 lbs), bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods

Own or willing to acquire basic professional cleaning supplies and home cleaning equipment
Preferred:

Experience working in seniors' homes or healthcare environments

Food Handler Certificate or Safe Food Handling training

Knowledge of specialized cleaning techniques (e.g., for mobility equipment, sensitive surfaces)

Experience with dietary restrictions and meal planning for seniors

Additional language skills (especially German, Portuguese, or Mandarin)

References from previous residential or commercial cleaning clients

Schedule & Compensation
Work Arrangement: Independent contractor preferred; direct employment considered
Hours:

Part-time, typically 15-25 hours per week

Flexible scheduling with clients primarily during weekdays
-
Some evening or weekend availability may be requested
-
Potential to grow hours based on performance and client demand
Compensation: $25-30/hour depending on experience and work experience
Contractor vs. Employee Considerations
As an independent contractor, you would:

Set your own general availability (within client needs)

Use your own cleaning supplies (as directed by Wellura) and equipment
-
Invoice Wellura for services rendered

Be responsible for your own taxes and insurance (minimum $2M Liability coverage)
-
Have flexibility to work with other clients (non-competing only)
As a direct employee, you would:

Receive consistent scheduling through Wellura

Have cleaning supplies provided
-
Receive regular paychecks with deductions handled
-
Be eligible for additional hours and advancement opportunities

Focus exclusively on Wellura clients
