Position Overview
Wellura Companion Caregivers provide attentive, personalized support to help seniors and adults with special needs live independently and with dignity in their own homes. This is not institutional care—you'll build genuine relationships with clients and their families, becoming a trusted presence in their lives.
Key Responsibilities
Direct Client Support

Provide friendly companionship through conversation, activities, games, and outings

Assist with light meal preparation and feeding support as needed • Perform light housekeeping (tidying, dishes, laundry, basic cleaning) • Provide medication reminders (non-clinical—you are NOT administering medications)

Assist with grooming and personal care within your scope (does not include bathing or toileting)

Accompany clients to appointments, errands, or social activities • Support with technology use (video calls with family, smartphones, tablets) • Monitor and report any changes in client health, safety, or well being to your supervisor or care coordinator
Communication & Coordination:

Document each visit via the Notes tool in our system (after every client visit, what you did, observations, any concerns)

Communicate proactively with your Care Coordinator about scheduling, client needs, or issues

Build rapport with client families

Follow established care plans and safety protocols

Actively participate in team meetings and training sessions

Meal Preparation & Kitchen Support:

Prepare nutritious meals according to dietary preferences and restrictions

Plan simple weekly menus in consultation with clients/families

Stock and organize pantry, refrigerator, and kitchen supplies

Clean kitchen thoroughly after meal preparation
-
Package bulk meals and label meals/leftovers appropriately
Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
-
High school diploma or equivalent
-
Valid Ontario driver's license (G2 minimum, G preferred) and own a reliable vehicle with insurance

Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (we will cover the cost)

Comfortable using smartphone apps for scheduling and communication • Strong English communication skills (verbal and written)

Physical ability to assist with light mobility support, lifting up to 25 lbs, and standing/walking for extended periods
Preferred:
-
Previous experience in care giving, support work, PSW, healthcare, hospitality, or customer service

Emergency First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain) • Experience working with seniors, individuals with dementia, or adults with developmental disabilities

Additional language skills (especially German, Portuguese, or Mandarin)

Schedule & Compensation
Hours: Part-time

Typically, 15-25 hours per week to start

Mix of weekday, evening, and weekend shifts

Potential to grow to full-time for the right person

Compensation: $22-25/hour depending on experience

Paid training provided

Mileage reimbursement for client transportation
